There are industry-recognized and experience-based risks commonly associated with outdoor activities. As white water rafting, canoeing, kayaking, snow skiing, and snowboarding are common outdoor Scouting activities, reference is made, by way of example, to the Victoria, Australia state government’s below guidance regarding common risks associated with such activities.
Sample controls which can be put into place to control or minimize the potential effect of such risks are also identified. This guidance may serve as a template for a Scout leader whose unit anticipates participating in one or more of such activities, as this is the same exercise that a unit must go through to enhance the probability that an outdoor activity will be successfully completed.
